The Moon Ate the Darkness and Saved Me – Danielle Wong

I stepped back
and looked.

People around me had their own sun
shine down on them wherever they went.

At best, I had storm clouds
that stayed tethered to me.

They drenched me
with their buckets while I walked about.

They brightened my day
with flashes sent from angels.

A drought of lightning
overtook my existence.

Angels stole
the buckets.

The storm clouds darkened
and wrapped themselves around me.

I stood still.
Closed my eyes.

Focused on how my breath
exchanged with the clouds.

The clouds stayed dark,
but bit by bit a soft light shone.

The soft light started to follow
wherever I went.

Through the surrounding dark
I saw the moon.

It gently nibbled little holes
through the storm clouds.

I watched the moon
graze upon the dark.

And now, its light
stays tethered to me.
